How to Reset When You Feel Overwhelmed as a Mom
Intro
Some days just feel like too much. The house feels loud. The to-do list feels never-ending. You’re trying to show up for your kids, your home, your responsibilities…
and somewhere in the middle of all of that, you feel like you’re losing yourself.
If you’ve been there, I want you to know something first: You are not alone—and you are not failing.
You’re just overwhelmed.
What Overwhelm Really Feels Like
Overwhelm doesn’t always look dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like:
Snapping a little quicker than you want to
Feeling mentally exhausted before the day even starts
Not knowing where to begin, so you do nothing
Feeling like you’re constantly behind
And the hardest part?
You’re still showing up through it all.
Why It Happens
As moms, we carry a lot. We hold schedules, emotions, needs, expectations—sometimes all at once. And when everything builds up without a pause, it turns into overwhelm. Not because you’re doing something wrong…
But because you’ve been doing too much, for too long, without enough support or reset.
A Simple Reset (That Actually Helps)
You don’t need a full day off or a perfect routine to reset. You just need a small moment to breathe and regroup.
Here’s a simple reset you can use anytime:
1. Pause (Even for 2 Minutes)
Step away if you can.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath.
Not to fix everything—just to slow down.
Tip: If you have a Google FitBit or smartwatch, track this as a mindfulness exercise. You can utilize the “relax” feature, which will guide you on the proper way to breathe
2. Clear One Thing
Don’t try to fix the whole house or your entire day.
Choose ONE thing:
Wash a few dishes
Clear a counter
Start one load of laundry
Small movement creates clarity.
3. Speak Grace Over Yourself
Instead of thinking: “I’m behind.”
Say: “I’m doing the best I can in this moment.”
It matters what you say to yourself.
4. Reset Your Focus
Ask yourself: 👉 What actually matters right now?
Not everything needs your attention—just the next right thing.
5. Invite God Into the Moment
You don’t need a long prayer.
Just a simple one:
“God, help me slow down and find peace right here.”
Peace doesn’t come from everything being done—
it comes from being grounded while you’re doing it.
Supporting Scripture Verses:
Matthew 11:28–30 "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Isaiah 40:29 "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength."
Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Isaiah 26:3 "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."
Why these scriptures are powerful: Stress naturally forces our eyes onto our problems. These scriptures are a gentle corrective, reminding us that anchoring our focus on God—rather than the storm around us—is the key to finding steady, "perfect" peace.
You Don’t Have to Do It All Perfectly
Some days won’t go as planned. Some days will feel messy and stretched. But that doesn’t mean you’re not growing. It doesn’t mean you’re not doing enough. It doesn’t mean you’re not a good mom.
From My Heart to Yours
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately…
Take this as your reminder: You don’t have to carry everything at once. You don’t have to figure it all out today.Just take the next step. Give yourself grace. And start again.
In Closing
You’re not behind. You’re just in a season—and you’re learning how to move through it!
With Love,
